Introduction

The following believe people should pray for the baptism of the Holy Spirit:

Charles G. Finney                    Dr. W.A. Criswell                     DeWight L. Moody

Charles Haddon Spurgeon              Dr. John R. Rice                   Dr. R. A. Torrey

Dr. Martyn Lloyd-Jones              Billy Sunday                          Dr. Oswald J. Smith

Dr. Robert G. Lee                    Dr. Lee Roberson                        Dr. F.B. Meyer

Jonathan Edwards                      A.W. Tozer                               Dr. Curtis Hutson

Dr. Kurt Koch                          Hal Lindsey                                    Dr. Bill Bright

Dr. Richard Clearwaters - Former President, Central Baptist Theological Seminary

Dr. Hobart Freeman - Former professor at Grace Theological Seminary

Dr. Jack Deere - Former professor at Dallas Theological Seminary            Plus many others!!

They believe that receiving the baptism of the Holy Spirit is a separate occurrence from believing that Jesus is God and their Lord. Most of these men do not believe in speaking in tongues, which is the proof of the Holy Spirit baptism according to the Bible, Mark 16:17, Etc.

Episodes that Should Take Place in Your Life:  The following may not be the exact order:

- Seeking, you seek to find out who Jesus Christ is and your responsibilities.

- You accept Jesus as their personal Savior, Lord and God.

- You are water baptized with the washing away of sins, in the name of Jesus Christ.

- You are baptized with the Holy Spirit and speaks in tongues

- You with the guidance of the Holy Spirit move toward becoming more like Jesus, 1 Peter 2:21. You become more like Jesus by reading and listening to the Bible and by other communication from anointed ministers, Ephesians 4:11. The Holy Spirit can teach you everything, 1 John 2:27.

-You as a Christian are sanctified, no more sin in your life!

- You as a Christian seek to be an overcomer, Revelation 2 & 3.

- You as a Christian minister to others as the Holy Spirit leads, Matthew 7:21-23; Mark 16:15-19, John 14:12.

- You as a Christian and an overcomer move on to be ‘a manifested son of God’, Romans 8:19.

“John answered, saying unto them all, I indeed baptize you with water; but one mightier than I cometh, the

latchet of whose shoes I am not worthy to unloose: he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost and with

fire:”                                                                                                                              Luke 3:16

“Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.”                             Act 2:38

Terms:

"Baptism by the Holy Spirit"          same as          "Holy Spirit baptized"

"Holy Ghost"                                  same as          "Holy Spirit"

  "Filled"                                           same as          "Baptized"

For our salvation, Jesus simply could have walked on the earth and at the age of thirty died on the cross. But, he didn’t, why? 1 Peter 2:21 tells us to walk in His steps. He cast out demons; we too are too cast out demons. He laid hands on the sick; we too are too laid hands on the sick with them recovering. Christians are to go around doing good as Jesus did, Acts 10:38. What did Jesus do as our example to get power? Matthew 3:16 tells us that Jesus received the Holy Spirit which is our example, since Jesus as God already has the Holy Spirit, and as our example didn’t need water baptism which was and is to wash away sin. Jesus is God, who is sinless!

What is a Christian?  Many times Jesus is being referred to as flesh as our example as to how we should

relate to Father, and what and how to obey.

‘Christ’ is Greek

‘Messiah’ is Hebrew

‘Anointed’ is English

‘Christ’ and ‘Messiah’ mean ‘Anointed’

So, a Christian is someone who has been anointed like Jesus the Christ (Jesus the anointed).

How was Jesus anointed?

“How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and with power: who went about doing

good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devil; for God was with him.”   Acts 10:38

If one does not have the Holy Ghost baptism, then that person is NOT a Christian! HELL and the LAKE of FIRE are not a place you want to be. Be sure you are right!!!

If a person doesn’t have the baptism of the Holy Spirit, he is not a Christian!

“But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you. Now if any man

have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his.”   Romans 8:9

“But if the Spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in you, he that raised up Christ from the

dead shall also quicken your mortal bodies by his Spirit that dwelleth in you.”    Romans 8:11

“For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God.”   Romans 8:14

“He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned.17 And these

signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new

tongues;18 They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall

lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover.”   Mark 16:16-18

I. How to be Baptized with the Holy Spirit    (Should you be water baptized first?)

A. Decide the baptism of the Holy Spirit is required for your salvation

Many receive the baptism of the Holy Spirit without understanding its need for their salvation. But if a person is having problems receiving, then they will press in more realizing the baptism of the Holy Spirit is required for their salvation.

B. Wait

“And, being assembled together with them, commanded them that they should not depart from Jerusalem,

but wait for the promise of the Father, which, saith he, ye have heard of me.”  Acts 1:4

“31 It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God. 32 But call to remembrance the former days, in which, after ye were illuminated, ye endured a great fight of afflictions; 33 Partly, whilst ye were made a gazingstock both by reproaches and afflictions; and partly, whilst ye became companions of them that were so used. 34 For ye had compassion of me in my bonds, and took joyfully the spoiling of your goods, knowing in yourselves that ye have in heaven a better and an enduring substance. 35 Cast not away therefore your confidence, which hath great recompence of reward. 36 For ye have need of patience, that, after ye have done the will of God, ye might receive the promise. 37 For yet a little while, and he that shall come will come, and will not tarry. 38 Now the just shall live by faith: but if any man draw back, my soul shall have no pleasure in him. 39 But we are not of them who draw back unto perdition; but of them that believe to the saving of the soul.”      Hebrews 10:31-39

The purpose for waiting is to make sure one is understanding things properly.

1st Make sure you are willing to have Jesus as your God and live for Him.

2nd Be sure you have confessed any sin in your life.

3rd Be careful who lays hands on you. The Holy Spirit of Jesus comes by prayer or the laying on of hands.

4th With faith seek the baptism of the Holy Spirit

C.  Pray - simply ask Jesus (Father) to Holy Spirit baptize you    - meaning that you should ask that the Holy Spirit be placed in your spirit, nothing else. (Remember, there is only one God, He has manifested Himself as Jesus, Father, and the Holy Spirit. Jesus is God in the flesh. Please see the study on ‘Who is God’.) By being Holy Spirit baptized, you are receiving Jesus who will live inside of you. The Holy Spirit/Holy Ghost is the Spirit of Jesus. He will never leave you or forsake you.

"I indeed have baptized you with water: but he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost." (Acts 11:16) Mark 1:8

"And I knew him not: but he that sent me to baptize with water, the same said unto me, Upon whom thou shalt see the Spirit descending, and remaining on him, the same is he which baptizeth with the Holy Ghost."    John 1:33

"... how much more shall your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to them that ask Him?"  Luke 11:13

"These all continued with one accord in prayer and supplication, with the women, and Mary the mother of Jesus, and with his brethren."   Acts 1:14

What were they praying for?  To be Holy Spirit baptized?

“And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave

them utterance.”  Acts 2:4

"And when they had prayed, the place was shaken where they were assembled together; and they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and they spake the word of God with boldness."  (New comers were Spirit baptized, not a new filling)   Acts 4:31

John 3:34  For he whom God hath sent speaketh the words of God: for God giveth not the Spirit by measure unto him.        KJV

John 3:34  For the One whom God sent speaks the Words of God, for God does not give the Spirit by measure.       Jay Green

"Who, when they were come down, prayed for them, that they might receive the Holy Ghost:"  Acts 8:15

Acts 9:11 What was Paul praying for? Was he praying for the baptism of the Holy Spirit?  Paul would know the prophet Joel's words in Joel 2:28-32.

"And it shall come to pass in the last days, saith God, I will pour out of my Spirit upon all flesh: and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams:"    Acts 2:17

We are in the "last days" (Hebrews 1:2).

"[Even] the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you."    John 14:17

D. Laying on of hands by a Holy Spirit baptized Christian is a way that a Christian can receive the baptism (filling) of the Holy Spirit, some only pray and receive, while some pray and have hands laid on them.

"And when Simon saw that through laying on of the apostles' hands the Holy Ghost was given, he offered them money,"    Acts 8:18

"And when Paul had laid [his] hands upon them, the Holy Ghost came on them; and they spake with tongues, and prophesied."   Acts 19:6

"Jesus ... hath sent me, that thou mightest receive thy sight, and be filled with the Holy Ghost."  Acts 9:17

To receive the Holy Spirit you must be willing to yield - Yield to the Holy Spirit

"Ye stiffnecked and uncircumcised in heart and ears, ye do always resist the Holy Ghost: as your fathers did, so do ye."    Acts 7:51

Paul heard this sermon. Stephen's death may have made a great impact on Paul.

Especially now that he realizes Jesus is God!

How to receive the Baptism of the Holy Spirit – Jesus.

“19 Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, when the times of refreshing shall come from the presence of the Lord; 20 And he shall send Jesus Christ, which before was preached unto you: 21 Whom the heaven must receive until the times of restitution of all things, which God hath spoken by the mouth of all his holy prophets since the world began.”  Acts 3:19-21

“And we are his witnesses of these things; and so is also the Holy Ghost, whom God hath given to them

that obey him.”   Acts 5:32

One must wish to live a holy life. One must be willing to have no sin.

II. Is Receiving the Baptism Experiential?  Yes!!!!!

 New Testament evidence:

"... Elisabeth was filled with the Holy Ghost ..."       Luke 1:41-42

Experiential evidence - "And she spake out with a loud voice..." a testimony

More experience - Place shaken, filled with Holy Spirit, and they spake the Word of God with boldness

"And when they had prayed, the place was shaken where they were assembled together; and they were all (now) filled with the Holy Ghost, and they spake the word of God with boldness."  (New comers were Spirit baptized)   Acts 4:31

"And with great power gave the apostles witness of the resurrection of the Lord Jesus: and great grace was upon them all."  Acts 4:33

"And the saying pleased the whole multitude: and they chose Stephen, a man full of faith and of the Holy Ghost, ..."      Acts 6:5

How would a person know if another is Spirit Baptized?  Experience!

6:8 "And Stephen, full of faith and power, did great wonders and miracles among the people."

6:10 "And they were not able to resist the wisdom and the Spirit by which he spake."

Simon saw that through laying on of the Apostles' hands the Holy Spirit was given. The point is the receiving was something he could observe, so he offered money. (Acts 8:17)

Paul was baptized with the Holy Spirit then straightway preached Christ that He is the Son of God! (Acts 9:20)

How did they know they had received the Holy Spirit?

Peter knew that Cornelius and company were Holy Spirit baptized because they spoke with tongues and magnified God. Peter knew by experience that they had received the baptism of the Holy Spirit. (Acts 10:44-47)

Peter's defense allowing Gentiles into the church was their receiving of the baptism of the Holy Spirit.

"And as I began to speak, the Holy Ghost fell on them, as on us at the beginning. Then remembered I the Word of the Lord, how that he said, John indeed baptized with water; but ye shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost."   Acts 11:15-16

Paul said "Have ye received the Holy Ghost since ye believed?..." Acts 19:2   There may have seemed to be something lacking in their Christian walk. He didn't see any evidence of their Holy Spirit baptism.

III. What is the Baptism by the Holy Spirit?      It's an anointing.

The Baptism of the Holy Spirit is God entering into a person.

Believers are Christians which have the Holy Spirit in them!

"Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you."  John 14:17

“If ye love me, keep my commandments. [16] And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another

Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever; [17] Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot

receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and

shall be in you. [18] I will not leave you comfortless: I will come to you. [19] Yet a little while, and the

world seeth me no more; but ye see me: because I live, ye shall live also. [20] At that day ye shall know

that I am in my Father, and ye in me, and I in you.”  John 14:15-20

"Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you?"    I Corinthians 3:16

"He said unto them, Have ye received the Holy Ghost since ye believed? And they said unto him, We have not so much as heard whether there be any Holy Ghost."  Acts 19:2

Spirit of Christ

“But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you. Now if any man

have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his. [10] And if Christ be in you, the body is dead because of

sin; but the Spirit is life because of righteousness. [11] But if the Spirit of him that raised up Jesus from

the dead dwell in you, he that raised up Christ from the dead shall also quicken your mortal bodies by his

Spirit that dwelleth in you.”   Romans 8:9-11

“For I know that this shall turn to my salvation through your prayer, and the supply of the Spirit of Jesus

Christ,”   Philippians 1:19

“Searching what, or what manner of time the Spirit of Christ which was in them did signify, when it

testified beforehand the sufferings of Christ, and the glory that should follow.”   1 Peter 1:11

“Hereby know ye the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesseth that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is of

God:”  1 John 4:2

Believers have God in them!

“And what agreement hath the temple of God with idols? for ye are the temple of the living God; as God

hath said, I will dwell in them, and walk in them; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people.” 2

Cor. 6:16

“And to know the love of Christ, which passeth knowledge, that ye might be filled with all the fullness of God.”    Ephesians 3:19

“One God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all.”  Ephesians 4:6

“Whosoever transgresseth, and abideth not in the doctrine of Christ, hath not God. He that abideth in the

doctrine of Christ, he hath both the Father and the Son.”   2 John 1:9

Believers have Jesus in them!

“Examine yourselves, whether ye be in the faith; prove your own selves. Know ye not your own selves,

how that Jesus Christ is in you, except ye be reprobates?”   2 Corinthians 13:5

“I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now

live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me.” Galatians 2:20

“My little children, of whom I travail in birth again until Christ be formed in you,”             Galatians 4:19

“Which is his body, the fullness of him that filleth all in all.”                                                Ephesians 1:23

“That Christ may dwell in your hearts by faith; that ye, being rooted and grounded in love,” Ephesians 3:17

“And to know the love of Christ, which passeth knowledge, that ye might be filled with all the fullness of God.”  Ephesians 3:19

“To whom God would make known what is the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles;

which is Christ in you, the hope of glory:”  Colossians 1:27

“Where there is neither Greek nor Jew, circumcision nor uncircumcision, Barbarian, Scythian, bond nor

free: but Christ is all, and in all.”   Colossians 3:11

“Whosoever transgresseth, and abideth not in the doctrine of Christ, hath not God. He that abideth in the

doctrine of Christ, he hath both the Father and the Son.”   2 John 1:9

Jesus, Holy Spirit, (God) are in Christians:

 God         2 Corinthians 6:16; 2 John 1:9; Ephesians 4:6

 Jesus  Ro.8:10; 2 Cor.13:5; Ga.2:20,4:19; Eph.3:17,1:23; Col.1:27,3:11; 2 Jo.1:9

 Holy Spirit    John 14:17; Romans 8:8-9; 1 Corinthians 3:16,6:19

A. Baptism = filling = anointing          See study on anointing

"And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance."                                                                                                                   Acts 2:4

These two verses in Acts <1:5, 2:4> seem to imply that being baptized and filled are one and the same.

"...but be filled (baptized) with the Spirit;"                                                                        Ephesians 5:18

"How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and with power: who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devil; for God was with him."    (Acts 4:27)      Acts 10:38

"The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised," (Isaiah 61:1)               Luke 4:18-19

"But ye have an unction (anointing) from the Holy One,.."           1 John 2:20

"But the anointing which ye have received of him abideth in you, and ye need not that any man teach you: but as the same anointing teacheth you of all things, and is truth, and is no lie, and even as it hath taught you, ye shall abide in him."          (2 Corinthians 1:21)           1 John 2:27

 B. Power = ‘virtue’ is the result of the anointing

"And Jesus, immediately knowing in himself that virtue (power) had gone out of him,.."  (Luke 8:46)            Mark 5:30

"And the whole multitude sought to touch him (Jesus): for there went virtue (power) out of him, and healed [them] all."                       (Mk.9:1;12:24)                 Mark 6:19

"And Jesus returned in the power of the Spirit into Galilee .."         Luke 4:14

"..and the power of the Lord was [present] to heal them."        Luke 5:17

"And, behold, I send the promise of my Father upon you: but tarry ye in the city of Jerusalem, until ye be endued with power from on high."       Luke 24:49

"...ye shall receive power..."      Acts 1:8

"And with great power gave the apostles witness ..."      Acts 4:33

"And Stephen full of faith and power, did great wonders and miracles among the people."      Acts 6:8

"Through mighty signs and wonders, by the power of the Spirit of God; so that from Jerusalem, and round about unto Illyricum, I have fully preached the gospel of Christ."      (Romans 15:13)       Romans 15:19

"... according to the power that worketh in us,"     Ephesians 3:20

IV. The Purpose of the Baptism of the Holy Spirit

 A. Why was Jesus baptized by the Holy Spirit?

Jesus walked on the earth for about thirty years without doing any miracles. (John 2:11) Why? Then He did miracles for about four years. Why did He perform any miracles at all? Couldn't He have lived on earth, been crucified, then raise from the dead to live in heaven? (Remember, there is only one God, He has manifested Himself as Jesus, Father, and the Holy Spirit. Jesus is God in the flesh. Please see the study on ‘Who is God’.)

 1. Jesus gave us the example of using the Holy Spirit’s power to do ministry, Acts 10:38. (Jesus didn’t need the baptism of Holy Spirit to do miracles. His Holy Spirit baptism was given for our example. Jesus is God!)

 2. Jesus didn't do any miracles until He was Holy Spirit baptized, John 2:11. (One must have the Holy Spirit baptism to do miracles!)

 3. Jesus said we would do GREATER works than Him.    (John 14:12)

 4. Jesus did miracles giving you an example of what you should be doing with the Holy Spirit.

Be baptized by the Holy Spirit, so you too can do miracles!!

 B. Why should people be baptized by the Holy Spirit?

 1. Be Holy Spirit Baptized for Salvation

“Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God.”          John 3:5

“That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.”             John 3:6

The above verses mention born of water, born of the Spirit, and born of the flesh. The first two are required for salvation.

2. Be Holy Spirit baptized to Know God’s Will

“Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth

the will of my Father which is in heaven.”   (Saying that Jesus is ‘Lord’ is not enough for salvation.)Mat. 7:21

“Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name and in thy name have cast

out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works?”    Matthew 7:22

“And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.” Matthew 7:23

A person must be baptized by the Holy Spirit to know Father’s will. A person can know a limited part of God’s will by reading and knowing the Holy Bible, but to know who to cast demons out of, who to lay hands on, etc. one must have the Holy Spirit directing/leading to know Father’s will from one ministering to another.

 3. The Baptism of the Holy Spirit was given to bear witness (testimony) every time in Acts.

"The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God:"        Romans 8:16

"... And that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in his name among all nations, beginning at Jerusalem. {48} And ye are witnesses of these things."    Luke 24:45-48

"...ye shall receive power..." Acts 1:8   Power, to do what? - to be witnesses

"Then Peter and the other apostles answered and said, We ought to obey God rather than men. {30} The God of our fathers raised up Jesus, whom ye slew and hanged on a tree. {31} Him hath God exalted with his right hand to be a Prince and a Saviour, for to give repentance to Israel, and forgiveness of sins. {32} And we are his witnesses of these things; and so is also the Holy Ghost, whom God hath given to them that obey him."  Acts 5:29-32

"...And ye are witnesses of these things. And, behold, I send the promise of my Father upon you: but tarry ye in the city of Jerusalem, until ye be endued with power from on high."     Luke 24:46-49

4. A Holy Spirit baptized believer can lay hands on the sick for healing!

"And God wrought special miracles by the hands of Paul:"          Acts 19:11

"So that from his (Paul's) body were brought unto the sick handkerchiefs or aprons, and the diseases departed from them, and the evil spirits went out of them."    Acts 19:12

"...the shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover."      Mark 16:18

5.  Be Holy Spirit baptized like Jesus, Because:

 a. Jesus was

"And Jesus, when he was baptized, went up straightway out of the water: and, lo, the heavens were opened unto him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove, and lighting upon him:"(Mark 1:10, Luke3:22)       Matthew 3:16

 Jesus was:

  First  - Water baptized

  Second - Spirit baptized

Third  - Led by the Holy Spirit  Mt 4:1

"And Jesus being full of the Holy Ghost returned from Jordan, and was led by the Spirit into the wilderness,"    Luke 4:1

 b. Jesus is our example.

One doesn’t have the power that Jesus exhibited unless one is Spirit baptized.

"... leaving us an example, that ye should follow his steps:"    1 Peter 2:21

"If we say that we have fellowship with him, and walk in darkness, we lie, and do not the truth: {7} But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin."   1 John 1:6-7

c. The early church was baptized by the Holy Spirit

"For by one Spirit are we all baptized into one body, whether we be Jews or Gentiles, whether we be bond or free; and have been all made to drink into one Spirit."   1 Corinthians 12:13

 d. Jesus said believers would be Spirit baptized

"And they said unto him, We can. And Jesus said unto them, Ye shall indeed drink of the cup that I drink of; and with the baptism that I am baptized withal shall ye be baptized:" Mark 10:39

"And as I began to speak, the Holy Ghost fell on them, as on us at the beginning. {16} Then remembered I the word of the Lord, how that he said, John indeed baptized with water; but ye shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost."    Acts 11:15-16

Peter is taking this quote from Jesus and interpreting it for all believers in Jesus. If you are a believer in Jesus, than obey these holy Words.

Jesus said, "For John truly baptized with water; but ye shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost not many days hence."   Acts 1:5

"And when he had said this, he breathed on them, and saith unto them, Receive ye the Holy Ghost:"     John 20:22

In John 20:22, was Jesus confessing or preparing their spirits to receive the baptism of the Holy Spirit in Acts 2:4?

Statements said about Jesus concerning your Spirit baptism

John said of Jesus "I indeed have baptized you with water: but he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost." (Acts 11:16)     Mark 1:8

"And I knew him not: but he that sent me to baptize with water, the same said unto me, Upon whom thou shalt see the Spirit descending, and remaining on him, the same is he which baptizeth with the Holy Ghost."     John 1:33

"Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and to day, and for ever."     Hebrews 13:8

 e. If a person is not anointed like Jesus to do miracles, then are they a Christian or a wolf in sheep's clothing?

"For I know this, that after my departing shall grievous wolves enter in among you, not sparing the flock."       Acts 20:29

Who are the wolves in amongst the Body of (the Anointed) Christ?     John 10:10

The wolves are against signs, wonders, miracles, and other results of the anointing.

"Through mighty signs and wonders, by the power of the Spirit of God; so that from Jerusalem, and round about unto Illyricum, I have fully preached the gospel of Christ."                  Romans 15:19

The gospel is not fully preached unless there are signs and wonders!!

"And my speech and my preaching [was] not with enticing words of man's wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and power:"       1 Corinthians 2:4

"For our gospel came not unto you in word only, but also in power, and in the Holy Ghost, ..."     1 Thessalonians 1:5

"Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven. {22} Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works? {23} And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity."             Matthew 7:21-23

"And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues; {18} They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover."        Mark 16:17-18

A true believer will/ shall/ must have signs following him/her!!!!!!

 V. Case Studies

 Jesus -

"And Jesus, when he was baptized, went up straightway out of the water: and, lo, the heavens were opened unto him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove, and lighting upon him:" (Mark 1:10, Luke 3:22)   Matthew 3:16

"Then was Jesus led up of the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted of the devil."         Matthew 4:1

"Now when all the people were baptized, it came to pass, that Jesus also being baptized, and praying, the heaven was opened, {22} And the Holy Ghost descended in a bodily shape like a dove upon him, and a voice came from heaven, which said, Thou art my beloved Son; in thee I am well pleased."   Luke 3:21-22

"And Jesus being full of the Holy Ghost returned from Jordan, and was led by the Spirit into the wilderness,"    Luke 4:1

Jesus was: 1st Water baptized, 2nd Holy Spirit baptized, 3rd Led by the Holy Spirit.

Samaria -

"Then Philip went down to the city of Samaria, and preached Christ unto them."     Acts 8:5

"But when they believed Philip preaching the things concerning the kingdom of God, and the name of Jesus Christ, they were baptized, both men and women."     Acts 8:12

"Who, when they were come down, prayed for them, that they might receive the Holy Ghost:"    Acts 8:15

“(For as yet he was fallen upon none of them: only they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.)”   Acts 8:16

“Then laid they their hands on them, and they received the Holy Ghost.”       Acts 8:17

"And when Simon saw that through laying on of the apostles' hands the Holy Ghost was given, he offered them money,"  Acts 8:18

Simon saw something. Did he see and hear them speaking in tongues? Whatever he experienced, there was evidence of the baptism in the Holy Spirit.

In Samaria they: 1st Believed, 2nd Water baptized, 3rd Holy Spirit baptized

Cornelius, relatives, and intimate friends -

"And the morrow after they entered into Caesarea. And Cornelius waited for them, and had called together his kinsmen and near friends."   Acts 10:24

"While Peter yet spake these words, the Holy Ghost fell on all them which heard the word."        Acts 10:44

"For they heard them speak with tongues, and magnify God. Then answered Peter,"   Acts 10:46

"Can any man forbid water, that these should not be baptized, which have received the Holy Ghost as well as we?"       Acts 10:47

 Peter's testimony

"And as I began to speak, the Holy Ghost fell on them, as on us at the beginning. {16} Then remembered I the word of the Lord, how that he said, John indeed baptized with water; but ye shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost. {17}  For than as much then as God gave them the like gift as he did unto us, who believed on the Lord Jesus Christ; what was I, that I could withstand God?"        Acts 11:15-17

Who is the "ye" mentioned in this verse? Is it the body of Christ?  Yes!!

"For by one Spirit are we all baptized into one body, whether we be Jews or Gentiles, whether we be bond or free; and have been all made to drink into one Spirit." 1 Corinthians 12:13

Cornelius' group: 1st Believed, 2nd Holy Spirit baptized, 3rd Water baptized

John's disciples -

"... Paul having passed through the upper coasts came to Ephesus: and finding certain disciples, {2} He said unto them, Have ye received the Holy Ghost since ye believed? And they said unto him, We have not so much as heard whether there be any Holy Ghost. {3} And he said unto them, Unto what then were ye baptized? And they said, Unto John's baptism. {4} Then said Paul, John verily baptized with the baptism of repentance, saying unto the people, that they should believe on him which should come after him, that is, on Christ Jesus. {5} When they heard this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus. {6} And when Paul had laid his hands upon them, the Holy Ghost came on them; and they spake with tongues, and prophesied."   Acts 19:1-6

John's disciples:1st Believed, 2nd Water baptized, 3rd Holy Spirit baptized

These are all examples of being baptized by the Holy Spirit as a separate act after salvation. There are no examples of anyone being told not to be baptized by the Holy Spirit. So how can anyone say that Spirit baptism as a separate act by the Holy Spirit is not for today?

The same thought can be applied to salvation. We have many examples of salvation in Scripture and no examples of anyone not needing salvation. Yet many teach that salvation is not necessary.

Those teaching that a separate act of Spirit baptism is not necessary are just as wrong as those teaching that salvation is not necessary, for the Scriptures don't state that baptism by the Holy Spirit will cease.

VI. Personal Tongues  - also can be called ‘tongues, your personal prayer language’

There are personal tongues & the gift of tongues

Tongues received at the baptism of the Holy Spirit and the Gift of Tongues are different.

The Gift of Tongues, which one also may receive at Holy Spirit baptism along with personal tongues.

The gift of tongues

“To another the working of miracles; to another prophecy; to another discerning of spirits; to another divers kinds of tongues; to another the interpretation of tongues:”     1 Corinthians 12:10

Personal tongues

“And they of the circumcision which believed were astonished, as many as came with Peter, because that on the Gentiles also was poured out the gift of the Holy Ghost.”  Acts 10:45

“For they heard them speak with tongues, and magnify God. Then answered Peter,”    Acts 10:46

“Can any man forbid water, that these should not be baptized, which have received the Holy Ghost as well as we?”      Acts 10:47

Did anyone interpret their tongue? Of course not! People heard their own language, which they understood; no one spoke out loud an interpretation; they simply understood what was being spoken.

People in the crowd heard their language being spoken, but 120 people were speaking in tongues.

“And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.”         Acts 2:4

Some think they only spoke in languages/ tongues of the visiting Jews coming from other countries. There were not 120 countries represented.

“And in those days Peter stood up in the midst of the disciples, and said, (the number of names together were about a hundred and twenty,)”    Acts 1:15

In this study when ‘tongues’ are mentioned, ‘tongues’ refer to personal tongues unless differentiated.

A.   One must expect to speak in tongues after being baptized with the Holy Spirit.

Is tongues the evidence of the Baptism of the Holy Spirit? YES!!!!!!

1. The Bible says all who believe will speak with tongues!

“And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak

with new tongues;”    Mark 16:17

Do you believe? Than why don’t you speak in new tongues? The verses say ‘them that believe … shall …”.  It doesn’t say that they ‘might’ or ‘could’ speak in tongues. It reads they ‘SHALL’ speak in tongues, etc.!!!! Of course they must believe!!!

2. All in the upper room at Pentecost spoke in tongues!

"And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance."     Acts 2:4

3. They spoke in tongues at their baptism!

"For they heard them speak with tongues, and magnify God...."        Acts 10:46

4. They spoke in tongues at their baptism!

"And when Paul had laid his hands upon them, the Holy Ghost came on them; and they spake with tongues, and prophesied."       Acts 19:6

Why don’t you speak in tongues?

For those who have not heard false teachers or preachers, baptism of Holy Spirit is very easy to receive. I have laid hands on many/most who speak in tongues right away. If one has been part of a denominational church, the baptism of the Holy Spirit may be difficult to receive.

A note to those who have difficulty yielding to the Holy Spirit to receive:

God will not make you speak in tongues. You may want to start by praying in your mother tongue. Pray loud. To speak in tongues you must yield to the Holy Spirit. Some may need to have the voice originating a sound. Then continue to make a sound letting the Holy Spirit take over forming words. Many simply start speaking in tongues. But, the norm for those who have been taught that tongues are not for today is difficulty yielding to the Holy Spirit.

"For if I pray in an [unknown] tongue, my spirit prayeth, but my understanding is unfruitful. (15) What is it then? I will pray with the spirit, and I will pray with the understanding also: I will sing with the spirit, and I will sing with the understanding also."  1 Corinthians 14:14-15

Spiritual things do not need to be intellectualized.

Your intellect needs to be yielded to the Holy Spirit.

B. Who spoke in tongues?                (Many more not listed)

 Mary, Jesus' mom                                            Acts 1:14;2:4

 All 12 apostles                                                 Acts 1:13; 1:25-26; 2:4

 Paul                                                                  1 Corinthians 13:1

 120 disciples                                                    Acts 1:15; 2:4

 Cornelius and friends                                       Acts 10:46

Certain of John the Baptist’s disciples              Acts 19:6

Why?

"For he that speaketh in an unknown tongue speaketh not unto men, but unto God: for no man understandeth him; howbeit in the spirit he speaketh mysteries."       (1 Corinthians 14:4)    1 Corinthians 14:2

“For with stammering lips and another tongue will he speak to this people."     Isaiah 28:11

"Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels,.."    1 Corinthians 13:1

So, Paul may have spoken in tongues of men and of angels. When we speak in tongues we speak in languages of men or angels. Possibly in our life time, we will speak in both.

"I thank my God, I speak with tongues more than ye all:"  1 Corinthians 14:18

You will know a Christian because he/she speaks in tongues!

Acts 2:4 "They" began to speak. We start to speak in tongues in faith.

1 Corinthians 14:18 "I thank my God, I speak with tongues more than ye all;"

Mark 16:17 "And these signs shall follow them that believe; in My name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues;  (18) ... they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover."

Do you believe? Than why don’t you speak in tongues? The verses say ‘them that believe … shall …”.  It doesn’t say that they ‘might’ or ‘could’ speak in tongues. It reads they ‘SHALL’ speak in tongues, etc.!!!! Of course they must believe!!!

-You will know Christian because he/she speaks in tongues!

-Only those who are Spirit baptized will lay hands on the sick with the Holy Spirit empowered results!

Baptism by the Holy Spirit is not speaking in tongues. A result of the baptism by Holy Spirit is speaking in tongues.

C. Why Should a Christian Speak In Tongues, Daily?

1. For the same reason a Christian should read the Bible and pray, daily.

"..yet the inward man (spirit) is renewed day by day."  2 Corinthians 4:16

2. When speaking in tongues your spirit is praying with the guidance from the Holy Spirit, this guidance edifies the person.

"For if I pray in an unknown tongue, my spirit prayeth, but my understanding is unfruitful."   1 Corinthians 14:14

"He that speaketh in an unknown tongue edifieth himself; but he that prophesieth edifieth the church."   1 Corinthians 14:4

"And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance."     Acts 2:4

"But ye, beloved, building up yourselves on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Ghost,"    Jude 20

3. When speaking in tongues, you speak to God.

“For he that speaketh in an unknown tongue speaketh not unto men, but unto God: for no man understandeth him; howbeit in the spirit he speaketh mysteries.”  1 Corinthians 14:2

Your spirit prays when you pray in a tongue       1 Corinthians 14:14

When you speak in tongues you speak to God   1 Corinthians 14:2

When you speak in a tongue you edify yourself  1 Corinthians 14:4

As you speak in tongues Holy Spirit gives you utterance     Acts 2:4

You build up your faith by praying in Holy Spirit (tongues)   Jude 20

4. Paul spoke with tongues outside the worship service.

"I thank my God, I speak with tongues more than ye all: {19} Yet in the church I had rather speak five words with my understanding, that by my voice I might teach others also, than ten thousand words in an unknown tongue."  1 Corinthians 14:18-19

5. When a person speaks in tongues he speaks to God not man.

"For he that speaketh in an unknown tongue speaketh not unto men, but unto God: for no man understandeth him; howbeit in the spirit he speaketh mysteries."      1 Corinthians 14:2

6. Praying in the Holy Spirit includes speaking in tongues.

"Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered (spoken but without one comprehending with intellect, Strong's #215, alaletois)."    Romans 8:26

"And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance."    Acts 2:4

The Holy Spirit gave them utterance to speak in other tongues.

The Holy Spirit gave them utterance to speak in other tongues

"For he who speaks in a tongue does not speak to men but to God, for no one understands him; however, in the spirit he speaks mysteries."    1 Corinthians 14:2

He who speaks in a tongue speaks to God

"But ye, beloved, building up yourselves on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Ghost,"      Jude 20

VII. Objections to Baptism by the Holy Spirit

Warning: “Wherefore, brethren, … forbid not to speak with tongues.”  1 Corinthians 14:39

 1. Dispensationalism teaches that Holy Spirit baptism is to help usher in the church age but not to continue as a separate occurrence in a believers life. No where in Scripture do we read that Holy Spirit baptism should end, but pastors and theologians, who haven't experienced the Holy Spirit baptism, teach its demise or its change to the same instant of salvation or water baptism. They simply and fully need to yield to the Holy Spirit. Many won't believe because of pride, the possibility of loosing their income(s), their positions, their pensions, etc. True believers do yield. True believers seek after truth!

"But he that doeth truth cometh to the light, that his deeds may be made manifest, that they are wrought in God."  John 3:21

"...true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship him."      John 4:23

"And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free."  John 8:32

"But unto them that are contentious, and do not obey the truth, but obey unrighteousness, indignation and wrath,"    Romans 2:8

Defense -  John's disciples also were Spirit baptized by Paul even after the Cornelius' group, a gentile group. This act shows that even after the Apostles, Jews, Samaritans, and Gentiles were Spirit baptized. Jesus continued to Spirit baptize others as a separate act after they believed that Jesus is God. Acts 19 takes place how many years after Pentecost, 25-30 years? Yet as separate acts, they believe, are water baptized, and THEN Holy Spirit baptized!

Dispensationalism, as taught in at least one fundamental Baptist seminary which I attended, means that the Lord's prayer is not for today as likewise the Scripture "Train up a child in the way he should go ... and he will not depart from it (Proverbs 22:6)." So as they taught, only Scripture that has possible application for today are the epistles unless they deal with spiritual gifts, devils, etc.

When dispensationalism is used as a tool for Biblical interpretation it has many pitfalls, there are better ways to interpret Scripture such as by the blood covenants (See study on the Blood Covenants).

"Of the doctrine of baptisms, ..." Hebrews 6:2   A foundation for a Christian is to realize that water baptism and Spirit baptism are the basis for spiritual maturity - salvation.

  2. Experience

Some teach that experience has no validity in a Christian's life.

Defense -  Yet, Paul in 2 Corinthians gives his testimony stating a lot of his experiences. Do you experience Jesus in your daily walk? If not, you need to check out your salvation. But all experience needs to be judged by the Scriptures. If an experience is invalidated by Scripture, than your experience needs to be re-evaluated, but than possibly your interpretation of Scripture is incorrect. So, simply ask the Holy Spirit to teach you (1 John 2:27). You do not require a human teacher.

"But the anointing which ye have received of him abideth in you, and ye need not that any man teach you: but as the same anointing teacheth you of all things, and is truth, and is no lie, and even as it hath taught you, ye shall abide in him."  1 John 2:27

A teacher (professor) who is not Spirit baptized teaches Bible trivia at best. In other words do the facts they teach have application to change people’s lives? Or are they simply teaching to have a job. Remember all Bible trivia can be understood by anyone.

A pastor who is not Spirit baptized is probably a hireling. In other words he is probably a professional pastor, who when the going gets rough he gets going on to some place that's easier. Hopefully a Spirit baptized pastor has been called by the Holy Spirit to the church and won't leave no matter how difficult the going gets. He won't leave until Holy Spirit tells him to go. He won't leave because the finances are low. He won't leave because the church doesn't like the sermons God has given him to preach. He won't leave because he's not content with pay or housing. You get the point. A truly called pastor and Spirit baptized pastor will be extremely different from a hireling!! John 10:7-16

  3. The main verses that anti-charismatics use are 1 Corinthians 13:8-10. "Charity never faileth: but whether there be prophecies, they shall fail; whether there be tongues, they shall cease; whether there be knowledge, it shall vanish away. {9} For we know in part, and we prophesy in part. {10} But when that which is perfect is come, then that which is in part shall be done away."           1 Corinthians 13:8-10

They try to use these verses to show that tongues has ceased. What are these verses referring to?  One of their own, Dr. Charles Ryrie says "that which is perfect" is a reference to Christ's second coming (The Ryrie Study Bible)." So, this interpretation means that tongues don't cease until Jesus' return!

(In 1 Corinthians 13:8       What knowledge will vanish away?)

    4. Tradition

There are many church traditions. Denominations have their own traditions. Baptists, Brethren, Pentecostals, Methodists, etc. have many traditions. What happens when a new pastor arrives? He may teach a doctrine a little differently. What do those who don't know their Bible do? They say his teaching is heresy, misguided, of Satan, of demons, etc. What they should be doing is studying their Bibles and yielding to the Holy Spirit to learn the truth!!

Defense - Our past training has a tendency to cause us to misinterpret Scripture. If we are simply using our knowledge to interpret Scripture, our interpretations maybe way off, we must yield to the Holy Spirit to receive proper interpretations.

Sealing is part of the Holy Spirit Baptism

If a believer doesn’t have the Holy Spirit, they are not a Christian. Once a person has the Holy Spirit he/she is sealed.

"In whom ye also [trusted], after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that Holy Spirit of promise," (Ephesians 4:30)   Ephesians 1:13

"and He who is confirming you with us into Christ, and did anoint us, is God, 22 Who hath also sealed us, and given the earnest of the Spirit in our hearts."  2 Corinthians 1:21-22

"But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God (Holy Spirit) dwell in you. Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his. (10) And if Christ [be] in you, the body [is] dead because of sin; but the Spirit [is] life because of righteousness. (11) But if the Spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in you, he that raised up Christ from the dead shall also quicken your mortal bodies by his Spirit that dwelleth in you."    Romans 8:9-11

"[Even] the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you."     John 14:17

VIII. What a Person Misses by Not Being Holy Spirit Baptized

 1. Boldness

"And as they spake unto the people, the priests, and the captain of the temple, and the Sadducees, came upon them,"    Acts 4:1

Peter is no longer afraid because being Spirit baptized has given him boldness.

"And when they had prayed, the place was shaken where they were assembled together; and they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and they spake the word of God with boldness." Acts 4:31 (This not a 2nd filling, but those not filled the 1st time are now filled.)

 2. Power

"But Saul increased the more in strength, and confounded the Jews which dwelt at Damascus, proving that this is very Christ."   Acts 9:22

"... Peter ... answered ..., Ye men of Israel, why marvel ye at this? or why look ye so earnestly on us, as though by our own power or holiness we had made this man to walk?"    Acts 3:12

"But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth."   Acts 1:8

"Through mighty signs and wonders, by the power of the Spirit of God; so that from Jerusalem, and round about unto Illyricum, I (Paul) have fully preached the gospel of Christ."     Romans 15:19

("Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away."   2 Timothy 3:5)

                  Messiah = Christ = Anointed

               Christ means anointed in Greek

               Messiah means anointed in Hebrew

               Anointed means anointed in English

A believer must become anointed like Jesus’ example of anointing. Acts 10:38, etc. – 1 Peter 2:21

Jesus Christ (Christ means anointed) - Jesus the anointed

Christians are believers who have asked for the baptism of Holy Spirit.

     Christians are ‘anointed ones.’

"The woman saith unto him, I know that Messiah cometh, which is called Christ: when he is come, he will tell us all things."      John 4:25

IX. Jesus was Anointed, so People have Chosen also to be Anointed

What must believers have to do the same miracles as Jesus?  The anointing!!!    John 14:12

Anointing comes from being baptized by Holy Spirit

 A. Jesus' ministry didn't start until His example of the anointing.

What was Jesus’ example of the Holy Spirit baptism?

He was baptized by the Holy Spirit directly after His water baptism

Of course, His example is that there are two separate acts. They are one for water baptism and one for Holy Spirit baptism. Both are necessary for salvation, John 3:5. Jesus is God in flesh; He didn’t need either baptism! He was giving you an example to follow. Will you follow His example for your salvation?

"Now when all the people were baptized, it came to pass, that Jesus also being baptized, and praying, the heaven was opened, {22} And the Holy Ghost descended (Holy Spirit baptism) in a bodily shape like a dove upon him, and a voice came from heaven, which said, Thou art my beloved Son; in thee I am well pleased."        Luke 3:21-22

"And Jesus being full (baptized) of the Holy Ghost returned from Jordan, and was led by the Spirit into the wilderness, {2} Being forty days tempted of the devil ..."      Luke 4:1-2

 Jesus' first lesson:

"The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised, {19} To preach the acceptable year of the Lord."  (Isaiah 61:1)   Luke 4:18-19

Being anointed shows that a believer has been Spirit baptized.

Do you have the Spirit of the Lord upon you? (Holy Spirit)

"Now he which stablisheth us with you in Christ, and hath anointed us, is God;"  2 Corinthians 1:21

 B. What did Jesus do with His anointing?

Jesus did miracles to be our example to follow, 1 Peter 2:21.

  1. Jesus healed

"How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and with power: who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devil; for God was with him."  (Acts 4:27)   Acts 10:38

a. When Jesus responded to John the Baptist, He directed John to look at the results of His anointing. Jesus didn't say ‘yes’ or ‘no’. He said   "show John again those things which ye do hear and see".

"Now when John had heard in the prison the works of Christ, he sent two of his disciples, {3} And said unto him, Art thou he that should come, or do we look for another? {4} Jesus answered and said unto them, Go and : {5} The blind receive their sight, and the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, and the deaf hear, the dead are raised up, and the poor have the gospel preached to them. {6} And blessed is he, whosoever shall not be offended in me."        (John10:24-25)      Matthew 11:2-6

2. Jesus gave us an example to follow

"... leaving us an example, that ye should follow his steps:"   1 Peter 2:21

3. Jesus said that we would do greater works than what He did!!

"Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father."     John 14:12

Why did Jesus' ministry include miracles? He could have simply died on the cross.

  1. To give us an example to live by. 1 Peter 2:21

  2. To show by His anointing that He is the Christ (Messiah, Anointed).

  3. To show by our anointing that we are truly Christians.

X. Christians have Chosen to Use the Anointing as Jesus’ Example Taught us to Use the Anointing.

Manifestations of the anointing:      How they use the anointing:

  A. Evangelism

With boldness "But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come

upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in ..."     Acts 1:8

In being an ambassador for Jesus "Now then we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God did beseech [you] by us: we pray [you] in Christ's stead, be ye reconciled to God."     2 Corinthians 5:20

A Christian will give the gospel with the results of people saved. Do you have power to give the gospel?

B. Knowledge

"But ye have an unction (anointing) from the Holy One, and ye know all things."  1 John 2:20

"But the anointing which ye have received of him abideth in you, and ye need not that any man teach you: but as the same anointing teacheth you of all things, and is truth, and is no lie, and even as it hath taught you, ye shall abide in him."  John 2:27

 C. By walking in the Holy Spirit   - as Paul was walking in the Holy Spirit

"For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God."    Romans 8:14

"This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh."  Galatians 5:16

"If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit."  Galatians 5:25

"But if ye be led of the Spirit, ye are not under the law."     Galatians 5:18

"Whereunto I (Paul) also labour, striving according to his working, which worketh in me mightily."  Colossians 1:29

  D. Healing      Laying on of hands       Mark 16:18

"And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues; {18} They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover."     Mark 16:17-18

"And Jesus ... touched his ear, and healed him."         Luke 22:51

XI. Holy Spirit Baptized Believers are the Only Divinely Anointed

 A. Old Testament anointed priests

"And the priest that is anointed shall ..."      Leviticus 4:5

"And the priest that is anointed shall bring of the bullock's blood to the tabernacle of the congregation:"      Leviticus 4:16

"And I will raise me up a faithful priest, that shall do according to that which is in mine heart and in my mind: and I will build him a sure house; and he shall walk before mine anointed for ever."    1 Samuel 2:35

"Behold, this day thine eyes have seen how that the LORD had delivered thee to day into mine hand in the cave: and some bade me kill thee: but mine eye spared thee; and I said, I will not put forth mine hand against my lord; for he is the LORD'S anointed."    (1 Sam.26:9,11,16,23)   1 Samuel 24:10

"And David said unto him, How wast thou not afraid to stretch forth thine hand to destroy the LORD'S anointed?"    (2 Sam.1:16,21)   2 Samuel 1:14

"But Abishai the son of Zeruiah answered and said, Shall not Shimei be put to death for this, because he cursed the LORD'S anointed?"  2 Samuel 19:21

"Saying, Touch not mine anointed, and do my prophets no harm."      1 Chronicles 16:22

  Others:   2 Chronicles 6:42; Psalms 2:2;18:50,20:6;28:8;89:38;105:15;132:10; Lamentations 4:20

Who are the priests of today? Who are the anointed priests today? 1 Peter 2:5,9

"Ye also, as lively stones, are built up a spiritual house, an holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices, acceptable to God by Jesus Christ."  (1 Peter 2:9)  1 Peter 2:5

B. New Testament anointed Christians

"Now he which stablisheth us with you in Christ, and hath anointed us, is God;"   2 Corinthians 1:21

"But ye have an unction (anointing) from the Holy One, and ye know all things." (1 John 2:27)      1 John 2:20

XII. What You Could Do with the Holy Spirit's Anointing

                       which is like Jesus’ Anointing?

 A. The anointing will teach you

"But the anointing which ye have received of him abideth in you, and ye need not that any man teach you: but as the same anointing teacheth you of all things, and is truth, and is no lie, and even as it hath taught you, ye shall abide in him."      1 John 2:27

 B. The anointing breaks the yoke

"And it shall come to pass in that day, that his burden shall be taken away from off thy shoulder, and his yoke from off thy neck, and the yoke shall be destroyed because of the anointing."    Isaiah 10:27

 C. Faith and the anointing

Study on Faith              (See study - Faith, God's Way)

-What is faith? Basically-believe is a verb & faith is a noun w/ same meaning

A Christian believes God's promises. Next the Christian goes into action like the laying on of hands, confessing the Word, etc.

"Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not being seen."   Hebrews 11:1

-What should we have faith in?

"That your faith should not stand in the wisdom of men, but in the power of God." 1 Corinthians 2:5

-How do we receive our faith?

"So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God."  Romans 10:17

We receive our faith by hearing the Word of God preached, taught, and exhorted.

We receive our faith by the Word of God.

-What should we do with faith?  Live by faith

"Now the just shall live by faith: but if any man draw back, my soul shall have no pleasure in him."               Hebrews 10:38

With faith we believe God's Word. With faith we believe God's Word for salvation, divine health, protection, prosperity, sanctification, etc.

-We need to believe with our spirit for salvation. Of course, this is only a part of salvation.

"That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart (spirit) that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. (10) For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. (11) For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed."    Romans 10:9-11

We need to believe with our spirit for salvation.

We need to believe with our spirit for healing.

"But without faith [it is] impossible to please [God] ..."       Hebrews 11:6

-How to limit God:   Unbelief

"... limited the Holy One of Israel."     Psalm 78:41

"And he did not many mighty works there because of their unbelief."  Matthew 13:58

"And straightway the father of the child cried out, and said with tears, Lord, I believe; help thou mine unbelief."     Mark 9:24

-Faith isn't trying to get healed. Faith believes that you are healed!

Jesus didn't say that He would try to heal you. He said that He would heal you! After receiving the laying on of hands, don't say "I'll try to get up". Say, "I'm healed." Go your way. With your faith your manifestation will take place!

XIII. Satan's Use of People

Satan fills the heart of a believer to lie to the Holy Spirit.   Acts 5:3

Satan has taken some Christians captive to do his will. 2 Timothy 2:26

  Satan uses people

People either serve Jesus or they serve Satan as their god. They may say that they don't serve Satan, but the Bible says differently.

"And with all deceivableness of unrighteousness in them that perish; because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved." 2 Thessalonians 2:10

"Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils; speaking lies in hypocrisy; having their conscience seared with a hot iron;"      1 Timothy 4:1-2

"But I fear, lest by any means, as the serpent beguiled Eve through his subtilty, so your minds should be corrupted from the simplicity that is in Christ."   2 Corinthians 11:3

"Wherein in time past ye walked (instead of walking in Holy Spirit) according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air (Satan), the spirit (evil) that now worketh in the children of disobedience:"  Ephesians 2:2

"To open their eyes, and to turn them from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan unto God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins, and inheritance among them which are sanctified by faith that is in me."  Acts 26:18

"Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated us into the kingdom of his dear Son:"      Colossians 1:13

Satan’s pastors, Bible teachers, seminary professors, missionaries, evangelists, etc.

Many in leadership positions in the so called church, teach that tongues are not for today, because they have never been baptized by the Holy Spirit to know the truth. They can’t lead where they have not been. They have no idea about the baptism of the Holy Spirit, because they JUST DON”T KNOW! They are simply ignorant and blinded!

Satan’s people, leadership in the so-called church, will say that tongues are of the devil, etc. Demons can cause people to speak in a false tongue, teach and preach false doctrines, etc. The devil counterfeits God’s perfect gifts! Don’t get caught or stay caught in the devil’s deception!

“And what agreement hath the temple of God with idols? for ye are the temple of the living God; as God hath said, I will dwell in them, and walk in them; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people.”    2 Corinthians 6:16

“Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you.”     2 Corinthians 6:17

“And will be a Father unto you, and ye shall be my sons and daughters, saith the Lord Almighty.”   2 Corinthians 6:18

XIV. The Antichrists

"Who is a liar but he that denieth that Jesus is the Christ (anointed)? He is antichrist, ... ."      1 John 2:22

Jesus did miracles because He is God. Jesus gave Christians the anointing of the Holy Spirit. He also gave us the example of how to follow the Holy Spirit.

Those who say that Jesus is not the Christ are also saying that Jesus is not anointed. Those who say Jesus is not the Christ are antichrists.

Conclusion

"...but be filled (baptized) with the Spirit;"    Ephesians 5:18

Become Holy Spirit baptized, because Jesus asks you to!!!!

Consequently not to be filled with the Spirit is sin!!!

"Therefore to him that knoweth to do good, and doeth it not, to him it is sin."  James 4:17

 Do anointed people offend you?

If you are anointed what are your works - signs & miracles?

The proof that a person is anointed is in their works - signs & miracles!

Proof that a person is a Christian is in their signs and miracles, Mark16:17-18.

Proof of your need to be baptized by the Holy Spirit:

“Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God.”                                                                                            John 3:5

“That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.”     John 3:6

The above verses mention born of water, born of the Spirit, and born of the flesh. The first two are required for salvation.

“And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you forever;”  John 14:16

“Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you.”  John 14:17

“I will not leave you comfortless: I will come to you.”   John 14:18

“Yet a little while, and the world seeth me no more; but ye see me: because I live, ye shall live also.”  John 14:19

“At that day ye shall know that I am in my Father, and ye in me, and I in you.”    John 14:20

"And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance."   Acts 2:4

"Jesus ... hath sent me, that thou mightest receive thy sight, and be filled with the Holy Ghost."       Acts 9:17

"And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free."         (1 John 2:27)    John 8:32

Be free from traditions! (Colossians 2:8) Be free from doctrines of demons! (1 Timothy 4:1)

"...but be filled (baptized) with the Spirit;"     Ephesians 5:18
